Since 1959, the Institute for Research in the Humanities has served as an interdisciplinary research hub for scholars working in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. The oldest of such Institutes in North America, the IRH sponsors approximately 40 residential fellowships per year and fosters a stimulating, supportive community for fellows to pursue their work and share it with other fellows and the UW–Madison community. In doing so, the IRH aims to promote greater understanding of the humanities on campus and beyond and build bridges between the humanities and the arts, social sciences, and natural sciences.
For a list of current IRH fellowship offerings, see here. For an overview of our programs and events, see here. If you’d like to support us, we invite you to do so by following the instructions below. If you’re interested in endowing a specific fellowship or programming initiative, please reach out to the IRH Director, or email info@irh.wisc.edu.
