Josephine (Jojo) is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Philosophy at UW–Madison. She received her B.A. in philosophy and mathematics from Vassar College. Jojo specializes in metaphysics, feminist philosophy, and social philosophy, and is especially interested in the intersection of these three areas. Her dissertation is titled “Essays on Essence in Social Reality” and explores topics including the (in)compatibility of essentialism and social construction, gender essentialism, social generics, and realism about social kinds. When she is not thinking about social structures, you can find her reluctantly training for a half marathon, sending podcast-length voice memos to friends and family, taking her dog to dog shows, and exploring Madison’s thrift stores.
