Simon Newman Launches “Runaways” Project

Congratulations to Simon P. Newman, IRH Honorary Fellow and Sir Denis Brogan Professor of History, University of Glasgow (Emeritus), for the launch of the Runaways project — a short film, project anthology, and collection of teaching resources. Created with a group of artists, academics, and publishers, the project reimagines the stories of London’s 17th and 18th century runaways, showing African and South Asian people to have been present in London, and that despite some of them being little more than children, they dared to challenge their enslavers and run away into the City of London, eager to find better and freer lives.
