Professor Mauro Caraccioli is an authority on empire and early modern thought, focusing especially on Spanish thought and the Spanish South American Empire. He will be giving a lecture on April 25th (time TBD), titled “Savage Pasts, Baroque Futures: Racial Hierarchy and the Political Theology of Spanish Empire.” His discussion of Spanish imperialism will enrich campus-level discussions of empire, race, and political theology in early modernity.
