Barbara Galindo (ACLS Postdoctoral Fellow in Race, Ethnicity, and Indigeneity [ACLS Emerging Voices Fellow], 2022-2024) has been awarded the Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Riverside. During her fellowship, she will be working in the Department of Media and Cultural Studies under the supervision of Professor Freya Schiwy, a renowned scholar of Indigenous Media. Her monograph, tentatively titled “Tortured Zones, Orphanized Lives: Collaborative Filmmaking, Indigeneity, and Mining Dispossession in South America,” discusses how Indigenous and non-Indigenous artivists use collaborative film or video as a tool to decolonize and reframe large-scale mining as a severe violation of ecosocial human rights.
