Barbara Galindo, (ACLS Postdoctoral Fellow in Race, Ethnicity, and Indigeneity [ACLS Emerging Voices Fellow], 2022-2024) will be participating as a commentator for a screening of the documentary The Reverse of Heaven (O Avesso do Céu, 2024) at University of California, Riverside on May 14th. Filmmakers Mauricio Dias and Walter Riedweg will be present to talk about the filmmaking process along with Barbara’s co-commentator, Professor Freya Schiwy. The film addresses the socio-environmental consequences of abusive conversion practices by neo-Pentecostal churches in western Amazonia. The event is being organized by the Media and Cultural Studies Film Club, and the panel will follow the screening of the film.
